Democrats in Virginia’s legislature are passing gun control legislation causing sheriffs in some counties to vow resistance. I don’t believe law enforcement should be choosing which laws to enforce (unless it’s whether or not to write me a traffic ticket—they should have some discretion!).
Many leftists are fleeing their high tax states and descending on free, low tax states in record numbers. Unfortunately, like a plague of locusts, they’re bringing the politics that made their state unlivable with them. Since lefties tend to congregate in major cities, perhaps such states should enshrine federalism in their constitutions. States currently with firm Republican majorities should amend their state’s constitution to say:
“Unless a law receives a majority vote from representatives in a majority of the counties, it shall not become law unless ratified by a majority of the county commissions.”
If you agree, write your state representatives and governors. Nevada's Bloomberg-sponsored Gun Background Check Proposition 1 passed with a majority in only one county, but it was the biggest one in Nevada. Had we such a provision in our constitution, it would never have become law.
If you’re thinking of joining a secession movement in your state, it might be better to try this first. It will be less costly and not require the involvement of Congress.
